Pension Records Project
As part of my research project on the 7th West Virginia Cavalry, I have found that pension records can be an invalualbe source of information. However, pension records are still in paper format at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. It is both cost and time prohibitive for me to obtain copies of all soldiers in the regiment. I am asking that descendants who obtain copies of their ancestor's pension file to provide me with a xerox copy. You can email me for my mailing address. If I am fortunate enough to gather together a significant number of files, I will consider donating them to the West Virginia State Archives as an artificial collection for future generations to utilize in their research. Thank you for your willingness to share information with me.
Soon I will post a list of the soldiers for whom I have copies of pension records and update it periodically.

Professional Research at the National Archives in Washington, DC. I recommend these services for obtaining copies of your ancestor's Civil War pension papers. They are much quicker than ordering through the National Archives.
